This was a live recording of Dizzy and friends in Havana in 1985. “Night in Tunisia” was composed by Dizzy in 1942. In 1n 1985, Dizzy Gillespie returned to Cuba after an absence of 40 years. He was one of the first American jazz musicians to add Afro-Cuban elements to his music, and Cubans to his big band. Most notably, in the 40s, was percussionist, Chano Pozo. A then-young Arturo Sandoval (trumpet) and Gonzalo Rubalcaba (piano) sit in with Dizzy’s band. Bari sax player, Sayyd Abdul al-Khabbyr, is remarkable. Walter Davis is on in this number.Great fun!
